Blacksmithing ClassesSo here’s the deal, it’s too hot to do forging classes during the summer, but a lot of people have requested a few different classes anyway. One of the popular requests are making roses, which luckily can be done completely cold! I’m not sure yet on how to fit everything together or how many students we can have at a time, but I have some ideas, and would like your feedback. I’m thinking 2-3 hour workshop, all materials provided. All you have to do is form the rose and assemble it. Does that sound like something you would be into? There’ll be both some day and some evening spots available. While we’re working on getting the autumn scheduled sorted, we’re also thinking about possibly getting a few new classes up, including a complete knife making course, either from forging the blade to finished handle and sheath, possibly a 3 or 4 day workshop, or as two separate courses, where you also can only come for one or the other, depending on preference. I’m already working on stocking up on handle materials of various exotic sorts for you to buy, or you can simply bring your own. The final little topic of suggestion is a chef’s/kitchen knife making course. From start to finished. This will probably involve more grinding than actual forging, due to the exact nature of making a good kitchen knife. There’s also going to be fewer spots available, since every student will need their own grinder, which in turn will make the course more expensive than the normal classes. But, it will give you the option of making exactly the knife you want, within reason, whether that’s a specific sushi knife, a general purpose chef’s knife, a paring knife or what not. What do you guys think? I want any and all thoughts and feedback you might have, it would help us a great deal in figuring out what we should focus on, and how to set things up and make the courses the best they can possibly be. Also, if you have thoughts on other things you’d like to learn, I’d very much like to hear about it.
